This workshop will provide participants with a description and an overview of sound art, from its social roots in Futurism and Communist Russia, through a century of sound producing technology, to a global “sound culture”. A short production session will provide students with an approach to making sound art from recorded sounds, addressing techniques for developing creative listening skills. Other topics to be discussed include: sound art and language; sound art and music; various forms of sound art practice (film/video sound track, performance, locative/site specific sound).
